Gold Coast 600

  • A Los Santos version of the Gold Coast 600 street circuit in Surfers Paradise, Australia.  This temporary street circuit is only 20 minutes drive from where I live, so I just had to have a go at recreating it. :D
  • Features a similar layout to the real life circuit and is situated in a similar location - running parallel with a famous beach and also circling a series of man made canals.
  • Both versions of the circuit feature long front and back straights which both have high speed chicanes.  Just like in real life, the back straight hosts the multi-apexed Beach Chicane.  A good line and rhythm is needed to get through there quickly.  It can be taken flat out, but if you don't get everything right, you'll be paying a visit to the pitlane.
  • At either end of the straights there are some 90 degree corners lined with concrete walls and catch fencing.
  • Pit lane is located at the final corner.  It's a bit tight, but the slowdown strips will ensure you don't go through there too quickly.
  • This is a fairly simple track and layout, but with concrete walls lining most of the course, it's very easy to make a mess of things.  Lap times are approx 1:00 to 1:10.

Stock vehicles are recommended as customs are probably too quick unless you're familiar with the track.  If you turn customs off, the race is locked to the following equally matched vehicles.

  • Sports - Sprunk Buffalo & Drift Tampa.
  • Sedans - Shafter, Tailgater & Fugitive
  • Compacts - Rhapsody & Blista
  • Coupes - Felon GT, Jackal & the F620
  • Muscles - Ruiner, Gauntlet & Dukes

That car selection should emulate the V8 Supercars nicely I think. ;)

Love the last pic.

Otherwise, track looks really nice. I see you've used the same idea I've noticed in some of Lancer (I think) tracks with the white concrete and the back side of railguards, that really looks good and I see now where it comes from in real life.

Will have a go later and check if the chicanes need tightening. :P

My first 5 goes at the famous Main Beach Parade chicanes.

First take took me by surprise, on the 2nd one I took them really careful and by the 3rd time I was already confident, "Oh so that's how you do it, let's floor it..." By the 4th and 5th time my hands started sweating everytime when approaching the section. You can see all the chicanes nicely lined up before you, you get nervous, your hands start sweating, you think you've lined up your car perfectly and you go for it. Then a small correction and BOOM you're on your roof.

I LOVE IT! :D

Can this race handle contact racing?

For a longer race it shouldn't be a problem.  It's a fairly simple track to learn, so after the first couple of laps everybody should be using similar lines and braking points etc.  If a car crashes during the Beach Chicane, it may cause a problem for the following player(s), but that's exactly how it is on the real life circuit too. :D

A good exit from the corners at the beginning of each straight will give you an opportunity to make a pass before the next chicane, so a little bit of patience and smart driving at the right moments should pay off.  Shorter races might be a bit chaotic in faster vehicles though, that's why there's no Supers available and stock vehicles are recommended. The available stock cars are evenly matched and well suited to the track. :)

The Jim Beam car was a Ford FG Falcon with a 5.0 litre V8 (308 cubic inch).  Cast iron block with aluminium heads producing about 630bhp.

The other car model in the series was a Holden VE Commodore with the same engine specs (they're strictly controlled by V8 Supercar regulations)

For a few years there were Volvos, Nissans, BMWs and Mercs in the series.  Pretty sure Nissan is the only one left competing with the Fords and Holdens.  Not sure if they use the same engine specs these days.

Not 100% sure, but I think the V8s are produced in the USA (Chevy?) with some select parts and assembly done in Oz. :)

Raced this a couple of times now and really enjoy it, the balance between authenticity, aesthetics & race-ability is spot on.

I have suggested it as a track for the LSTCC as IMO it fits the bill perfectly.
