So is that the one with Sting and Patrick Stewart?

Its a good choice, The new Dune is coming early next year. Good time to watch the old one!

Yes, Kyle MacClachlan, Sting, Sean Young, Patrick Stewart et al.

I didn't know about the new film until today!

It's halloween at the end of next month so I'm suggesting we do horror.  Since double features were a staple of old horror movies I also think we should do two, one classic and one modern.  I'd classify classic as anything from the 60's, 70's and 80's, and modern as anything from 1990 to present.  We would all nominate one of each and @Con will pick the winners as usual.

What do you think?

Ok, I am in!

Can I nominate now? :P I don´t know if I can decide between The Shinning, An American werewolf in London, Evil Dead II, jesus there are so many!!!

Easy to pick from 1990 onward: Train to Busan.... it just has to be that!

It seems like we'll get no objections to next month's genre, so sure, go for it.

I'll nominate Suspiria (1977) and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)

Really? an Italian Movie? Way to go! I wouldn´t mind watching that or the first time! Sounds pretty interesting!

I think I need to chose Evil Dead II. That scene with the hand is just one of the best scenes ever and it tilts the scale....

And that reminded me of Weekend at Bernie´s, can´t imagine why, maybe the way death is treated with such humor? :P

Nice choice!  Don't forget to nominate a modern horror too, anything from 1990 to present. (never mind, just saw your Train to Busan pick)

Weekend at Bernie's is a classic, though I prefer the sequel where Bernie is reanimated thanks to voodoo magic.  I'm not even joking.

Train to Busan might be hard to find, so, if that is the case, I propose 28 days later.

Train to Busan should be fine, it was a big film and is available on youtube and amazon and isn't that pricey on dvd.

Well, let me just say this. Autumn was always my favorite time of the year to watch horror movies. But that has nothing to do with Halloween, because that was non existant in Portugal till sometime last decade. No one knew what was halloween.

But this is the time that we start missing the fireplace and the blanket in front of the TV... And nothing like a good horror movie to make us want to crawl under the blanket in front of the fireplace!!

It’s been mentioned before so I know there’s interest so I’m going to nominate the Grindhouse double feature of Deathproof/Planet Terror. There is a version that exists where there’s a shortened cut of each movie back to back along with spoof trailers. (One of those trailers ended up becoming it’s own film but won’t spoil the surprise) That cut is around 3 hours long so it’s a bit of a slog but definitely fits with modern horror.
It’s actually called Grindhouse so don’t look for planet terror or death proof as they are just the stand alone films.

For classic horror I’m going for one of the all time greats. Hammer horror at it’s best with Dracula (1958) It’s one of Christopher Lee’s finest performances alongside Peter Cushing. I don’t think I need to tell you what thats about

I've seen Planet Terror but not Deathproof, and I've heard that's the better of the two.  Also, two of the trailers got made into their own films ;)

Just looked it up. That second trailer was only for North American audiences which is why I missed it the first time round.

I don't know many horror films, I don't like being scared and genuinely can not watch if they get too gory. Most trailers for modern day ones just make me think 'no way do I want to watch that!'. So I have took inspiration from here https://www.timeout.com/london/film/best-horror-films.

Classic - An American Werewolf in London

Modern day - Jacob's Ladder

I'm not trying to influence @Con or anything, but I hope that A Killing of a Sacred Deer gets picked this month, more than I've wanted any of my other nominations to be picked (none have :().  It's been about two or three weeks since I've seen it and I honestly can't stop thinking about it.

Yorgos Lanthimos, the writer and director, has fast become my favourite in the last year where I've watched all of his films, and he really feels like a modern Kubrick.

I mean, just look at this trailer!

If it does get picked, I totally didn't bribe Con ;)
