Just thought I'd pitch an idea here, something that I've been mulling over for awhile now.

I always thought that participating in a one on one or small group training session(s) would be a great way to increase your skill set. The main two skills in GTA are utilized in death matches and races; both of which can be improved upon greatly by practice. I came up with the following setup as an outline of how this work:

Teachers/ aka "Mighty Grasshoppa's" - The teachers would be comprised of the overall good players in each respective class (racing and DM's). They could be either voted in, self nominated, obviously known, what ever. I actually envisioned this being very informal (just whenever two people are on together) or even a scheduled event.

Students/ aka "The Green Beans" - This group is all of you that would like to "follow the leader" so to say, learn their styles and habits. The only requirement is the WANT to learn; in other words don't take up someone's offered time only to goof off.

For racing - Often times I like to break a race down, into parts, for learning. I may go around the same corner numerous times; either trying to find a better line, how to get around that hump in the road, just overall trying to be FASTER. This has always been accomplished by playing alone, of course, without any helpful hints or competition. What if someone followed you around the track, coaching you on specific corners, providing information about maintaining traction and control, how to control the controller (yes, I said that), etc. I've drove with Rev numerous times where he provides this kind of help; that is where this idea originated. The information/training session could be as in depth as wanted, whatever the group agree upon. I have numerous aspects of racing that I'd like to hone, them damn hairpin curves especially

For Deathmatches - Just like in racing, I want to follow the bad-asses in the crew. You know who you are; you rolling, bullet shooting, gun toting, pistol packing arse holes :D  I envision this to be much like the racing training; I especially want actual practice at rolling, how to effectively take cover (I've been killed sooo many times from being "locked" in cover), and overall territory knowledge. Yes, Many of these things can be learned from just doing more DM's, however, I'd rather get on the fast track and learn from those that constantly put bullets in my head.

Forgive the lack of structure here, I'm just throwing shit at the wall and seeing whether it'll stick. Hope it don't stink too bad  :P

Criticism please...

I kinda mess around in FR a lot with Desu and we talk about race and brake lines a lot and go over a race we just played with MLB. I'm still poop but I'm better lol.

So I think this is a very good idea and I think that was the idea behind stuff like TDM practice. It's hard to get people on board though so I think this is best with small groups.

I think you've got the right idea though about it being very informal. I'm hoping some others would express interest too because it can be a lot of fun simply shooting the shit too in the process.

I'm in.. I like the idea.

Racing is easier to coordinate it's the TDM's that are going to take everyone's cooperation and patience.  I think if we can learn to fight and move around on the map as a group it would definitely help when it comes to vs Crew challenges.

I agree with this part the most.  It's not easy to get this to work properly so don't waste yours and everyone else's time.

Love the idea, all for it. I think I've actually improved a LOT in just the 2 or so weeks I've been here simply by taking part in events and picking up traits from the guys who contstantly finish top 3...(I never even used to know HOW to roll...now I'm a roly-poly every DM).

In my first DM with the crew I came bottom (or next to, pretty much). Now I tend to come at least top half, sometimes even 1st or 2nd depending on who I'm up against, which I think is a massive improvement in my short time here.

As for racing, I still need a lot of improvement. I've won a couple of races here and there, but that's always when the likes of Rev, David, Dodge, etc aren't playing xD

To have the top guys/gals teach and offer tips and advice would be great

:)

Lmao something like that.

I don't consider myself that great at DM, but I'm always on board with practice if anyone ever wants it.

Not that great, eh? I'd feel the same way if ALL of my opponents were DEAD...

Some ideas on how to structure, schedule, manage this would be great.

I think it's gotta be an impromptu set up. Maybe base it off of when you're free and give a day or 2 notice of when you'd like to see if you can get something together (informal)?

If I can, i would be happy to help with racing. But I probably need some pointers there myself. I could definitely use some instruction in Combat. I'm all for this. As for the racing, this would be a good time to combine efforts here. A few tips and tricks during a "Win Trading" session seems ideal.

I'd love this. I try to pick G37s brain every now and then about both major components mentioned....don't let him fool you, he is good at DMs.

I am not very good, but am also available to help or assist instructors. With DMs, my numbers aren't the best because I try to play with people better then me to improve, but can help the beginner types to a certain level before the better guys in the crew advance them.

I'd really love to improve my racing and DM play. If it spawned off into other play aspects I could see parachuting or golf, etc. training sessions.

I'm inconsistent as crap at deathmatches. Sometimes I feel I do really well, and sometimes I'm complete garbage. I was way off in last night's deathmatch playlist. My main problem is cover. I can't seem to make myself not run 'n' gun. I get impatient.

As far as racing goes, I feel I'm at least decent. But I'm certain I've become better since joining the crew and following the great racers around here. (You know who they are) I know there's always room for improvement. I sometimes do races solo just to get a feel for the track, but I don't feel like I can improve without competition to give me the push I need.

Great idea, Rumdig. I'm on board.

I've noticed that those with the better DM stats, i.e., most kills, are run and guns. Hell, I often see G37 RUN up, GUN me, then as my body slithers into a heap, I see him RUN again. That sly mo fo...

I'm sometimes real impatient though, sometimes not for my own good.

Granted this isn't chess but shit (I've played with a lot of randoms who find a spot and literally sit there for the whole match), sometimes it's best just to set people in motion by moving yourself and hopefully your team can capitalize on your "rash" decision if you cannot take advantage of things next spawn.

I think this is a good principle though: don't ever get too comfortable in one place for too long.

in my clan match experience, the best way to learn to play together is to create 'teams'. team 1 will always be the same players, as will team 2. when practicing for a TDM, each person knows their route/guard. stick together to a point, but if you know that X is suppose to cover right side and X just got killed, your right side is open.

only Rambo in stealth and move in from the back. that's how I got all my pistol whips ;).

There are only two "secrets" to deathmatches:

1--know the terrain at least as well as your opponent...learn/memorize the maps

2--headshots headshots headshots...and more headshots

I recommend improving your headshot skills in the creator. Just create a deathmatch by dropping a ton of spawn points in an open area close to each other then go into test mode and turn on invincibility and use the bots as your target practice, manipulating the right analog stick to get the headshot asap when you start shooting. It is easy to do with an automatic weapon, the real skill comes when you get the hang of doing it with a pistol/shotgun.

To be honest, no other type of practice is going to be nearly as effective or efficient as the creator test mode method. You simply cannot get a target rich environment like that where you will be invincible.

Now as far as tactics goes (run n gun vs camp) there is no right way, the best tactic is the one your opponent cannot deal with. If I am playing against people who cant stop me from run and gunning, then I run and gun, if I am against superior run and gunners, then i find some cover and let them come to me...even then if I cannot get the headshot faster than them, they will kill me as soon as I pop my head out. You always have to adjust according to the situation and terrain.

Know the terrain and be skilled at scoring headshots at will (from cover/stationary or runnning & gunning) and the rest is pretty secondary.

Did you glock him in the mouth? Haha. I like that DM btw

I did :) it took me a while to realise he wasn't on my team when he ran past, pretty sure he stabbed Vishesh. It's a good one I spend half the time running about on fire though.. I've never won it yet either
