With the news that GTA will be ‘enhanced and expanded’ and then released on PS5 I was wondering what people’s thoughts were on this.

From a crew and RSCnet perspective I think it’s great news...

It will give boost to a game some of us are tiring of and hopefully bring in some new players while we wait for GTA6 (which may not launch with online capabilities). Personally I don’t think it will have impacted GTA6’s timeline either, though I’m sure many will disagree.

GTA Online will be a stand alone game available at launch for PS5, free for 3 months.

What do people think the price will be after this (maybe free for returning players)?

Every PS+ member will get $1 million a month for just signing in.

I swear I have read that the game will be free for returning PS4 players when it is released in 2021, but I cannot find the source where I read this, can anyone else confirm if this is true or not?

Enhanced and Expanded? Any ideas what this will mean and will it extend to online too?

If the game is enhanced and expanded online, will there be cross-platform and cross generation play?

I consider really impressive that GTA 5 will be one of the best games of the next generation even it is almost 10 years old. There are two possibilites: Rockstar is doing a great job with this game or the other companies can't create a game which can make players forget about GTA 5. I still don't know if I'll get a PS5 in the future, but if I do, I don't know if I will buy it. The temptation will be there, but I think it is more like a transition until they launch GTA 6. I don't expect major changes in this game, probably a lobby expansion, more content (online and story)... Rockstar wants to get some money, and they know they'll get it easier with GTAO than with RDR 2.

And yes, this is true.

I think it’s the latter... there is just nothing that covers everything as well as GTA. There are better driving games, better shooting games, better open world games but nothing that combines them all at the level that GTA does.

Thank you, IMO this eliminates 95% of the b*tching about this release.

The launch games look pretty weak so far but that’s normal for a new console release. The titles that interested me aren’t expected until next year. Not sure when GT7 will be out. GTA seems to be the only reason to get the console early. I don’t think it’s enough of a reason for me to make it a day one purchase.

Launch lineups are always sh*t.  Remember Knack!? No, no one does.  I'll get one launch though.  Backwards cap, extra grunt for the VR, bragging rights over PS4 peasants, the fact that I'm crap with money and refuse to save any at all.

I'm sure there will be a bunch of launch games that nobody asked for or wants.

I think when they say GTA Online will be expanded, that probably means the lobby capacity, but I hope it's more.

I'll still get a PS5 on day 1, but a good launch title that interests me is needed. Maybe we'll see more as we get nearer PS5 release?

From what I've read, yes.  Most big games will have BC at launch, I'm assuming GTA is one of them.  Hoping more for Overwatch personally 🙂

Would that then only work for the ones who have the disc, or somehow for the digital owners as well.. hmm..

Digital will transfer too, as long as you are transferring the same account.  All of your purchases are just tied to your PSN account, you'll just have to download them again.

@JuniorChubb Enhanced normally has to do with a visual/ graphical update.

Expansion will most likely have to do with whatever dlc's releases after the game is available and or a bigger map with new locations etc.

The PS5 will handle the game and easily so I don't see why not expand the map with new functionalies in free roam

They showed 'PS4' in the upper left in the press reveal.

I think my external hard drive will be out date to use with a PS5. Guess it will be back to 4-5 games for the stock store on the console. 😰 Hopefully they created a cost effective storage accessory to deal with this.

I remember going from PS3 to PS4 and thinking how smoothly the game ran before they bolted on update after update to free roam.

Map expansions to online would be great but will rule out cross-generation play. Also this may effect user created jobs, but the didn’t seem to mind that with the Casino DLC. It will be interesting to see if it splits into two completely different version of online, last gen and new gen.

My game freezes from time to time when flying or driving pass the casino, is that happening for anyone else? I think the PS4 memory use peeks in that area.

I believe if you edit a PS3 user created game mode with a PS4 it's no longer usable on PS3. I assume it would roughly be the same.

The PS5 will come with expansion slot/s to install propriety digital hard drive/s. You can probably use your current hard drive , but only for storage of screenshots and vids.

Because Fat Buds Matter!

We aren't getting GTA6 yet so I have no choice but to be excited for the new enhanced version for the PS5, whatever enhanced means. I just worry that they wont have ideas left for GTA6. The only enhancement I can think of at the moment is being able to move my damn Yacht. lol

With the old system you had to transfer, your PS3 account was still usable on PS3 but had no relation to your PS4 account from that point forward.

I think mod menus and rampant hacking at the time had an effect on this decision, hopefully it won’t be the case now and you can just flit from 4 to 5 and back as you wish with no ‘transfer’ as such. On Fortnite you can go from Switch, to PC, to PS4, to XBOX and back again once all your accounts are linked. Obviously there are differences but this is what I would like to see.

Rockstar released a business report a few weeks back stating (don’t quote me on this) they had a report and plan until 2023 which suggested a timeframe for the release of GTA 6. This makes perfect sense as GTA Online was and is intended to be a decade long online service, with continuous updates and support throughout - something Rainbow Six Siege developers Ubisoft have stated they plan to also do. My point here is that this trailer shouldn’t have been expected by the masses to be a GTA 6 trailer, though I felt that way when I saw the Rockstar logo on the trailer. This means we could see more updates than the bi-annual updates we have been receiving. We could see more bug fixes and/or more innovative systems like a Contact Mission option in the creator. Though these are all hopes, one thing is certain. Rockstar will continue to expand this service, as failure to do so would be like throwing money down the drain. When GTA 6 comes, I have no doubt it’ll be epic.

Folks expecting new maps and such best prepared to be let down at launch.  Pretty obvious that R* wants to make online its own thing. Makes sense because it keeps us from losing all of the stuff we worked for in the previous game when a new map does come out.

I expect the expanded PS5 version to be nothing more than the current PC version (The PS5 is basically one of today's decent gaming PC setups) with some new cars, clothes and other stuff. Lots of players have an obsession and will gladly buy this game a dozen times if needed. Thankfully the new version is on PC as well so I don't have to buy a PS5.

Wonder how long until the current console versions are left behind like PS3/360?

My dream is for the standalone online to be on an actual server with real anti cheat methods. I'm prepared to be letdown with a continued P2P setup though.
