Bollocks! Better start training then.

qRhnfrj.png

I’ve entered the ballot every year for the last 8-9 years and never got lucky.
Looks like this year is my year. Let’s hope it will actually take place rather than last years virtual one.

Best of luck and hope it goes ahead.

Didn't even know there was an entry fee.

Me too!

the entry fee is a bummer, but the vast majority of marathons and half marathons have an admin fee. There’s even a choice to pay £30 to enter the ballot! I’ve never paid it and people say you’re more likely to get a place if you cough up the dough.

The entry fee will to make sure only people who are serious about entering do so.

Lots of people have sponsorship to cover entry fees and to give money to charity for doing the run.

Make sure your bowels are empty before the run. You don’t want to do a Paula Radcliffe at the side of the road

I’m going to need plenty of Vaseline, don’t want to get joggers n*pple!

Big fabric plasters are you best bet... won’t have to stop for a Vaseline n*pple rub if you dry out at 18 miles.

You may want shave first through.

All the best though and hope you enjoy it.

Can you smell what the Stone is cooking?

I completely forgot about this thread.
Due to laziness and injury (read laziness x2) I deferred my place to 2022.
London Marathon 2022 was in the October rather than the usual April, so I had plenty of time to go from 0 to marathon ready.
Due to my ‘wife’ being keen to get fit and also someone who enters into the ballot every year without success, she decided that she wanted to do it too. She contacted a brain research charity offering places provided you raise a decent amount of money (Her father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease along with a form of dementia called Lewy Bodies a few year ago).

I started my training from 12 weeks to D-day using a man online training schedule. 3 weeks in during my first long run I tore a calf muscle. b*lls! 2 weeks rest required. At the end of the 2 weeks I caught a horrible cold (thanks to my brother!) which lasted 3 weeks!
So, 5 weeks out I was pretty much back to zero miles under my belt. My first run was up in London when we went to a concert.

A run around Richmond Park

Me and the other half were doing our own training schedules until the week before the marathon and we went out together. She announced that she enjoyed running together and that we should run the marathon together. Being the person I am I agreed that this would be a great idea.

Anyway. We ran it together, took a while - 6 hours. We ran the 1st half (up to Tower Bridge) then it was very much a run/walk for the second half.
I feel I could have ran the full thing, but we did it together.

Anyway, we both achieved our goal of completing the London Marathon. She raised a lot of money for a charity that does research into brain conditions that were very close to her. Sadly her father died in November 2022 a few weeks after the marathon.

We’re both still entering the London Marathon ballot every year. We didn’t get a place this year or for next year. We’re both going to start getting back into shape next year (starting tomorrow). I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been, I’ve always been a slim, athletic person, but I haven’t seen my 6 pack in years!

2024 I’m going to concentrate on getting healthier, make some changes and as mentioned on another thread I’d like to give BJJ a go. Seeing@Lann ‘s progress has inspired me to give it a go. Our physical and mental health is something I want to improve on this year .

happy new year everyone

Day 6. Double trouble! The same route round the village, but twice. Once with the mrs (mostly slow jog and walking). Then a jog round by myself. 2.91 miles (4.68km).

Big 10’s! A third of the way through and another icy evening. Just a short one again. 1.1 miles (1.8km)

I’ve been running with my girlfriend most days, so we’ve been chatting as we go. I’ve never been one for listening to music when running. It’s always been a chance to think about stuff

Very cool to read ! Kinda makes me wanna go train again but I'm stuck by that mysterious lazyness illness.

I ran a 10k back in 2019. Never done something like that before and never did it since 😁

The Mrs did it in 2022 and 2023. Was supposed to do it with her last year but never took the time to train.

I excuse myself by telling me that I'm already going to work by bike everyday (11kms) but I think I'll do this 10k this year !

Anyway, big congrats on running a whole marathon ! I definitely could never do that. Respect !
