Fantasy Olympic Games

Vince Carter Sport GIF by Team USAdavid chokachi swimming GIFmen clip GIF200.gif

The Olympics starts on 23rd July and I'm organising a simple fantasy game. To participate you have to pick your own multi-national team made from a selection of the participating nations. You then score points simply based on what medals your nations win, 4 for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze. The final result comes from the final medals table, but I will do regular updates of the scores as the games progress.

  • Pick exactly 5 nations
  • Each nation has been assigned a fantasy value and your team total value can not exceed 100 M$
    • see next post
  • The values have been worked out in direct proportion to the total medals won at the last 5 summer games.
  • I'm not listing every single nation here, any not listed worked out at less than 1 M$ but if you want another you can have it valued at 1 M$
    • You may notice Russia are not listed as they have been banned from team sport. Some Russian athletes may be competing under a neutral flag in individual events, but it was simplest just to leave Russia out. So there is no Russia in this fantasy game
  • No duplicate fantasy teams are allowed so if you think you have a winner enter it before someone else does
    • your team must differ by at least one nation to all other teams
  • There are no substitutions, once you have entered your team that is it
  • Just post your teams here
    • I'll try to keep a list of entries so you can check someone else has not picked it already
  • All teams to be submitted by 22:00 UK time on 23rd July please (first medals awarded on the 24th).

Opening ceremony tonight, I think.

~ day 1/2 to enter teams if anyone else wants to join.

Hasnt it already started? Pretty sure Australia v Japan softball was today (or yesterday for you guys). I might be confused though.

Edit: just googled, and apparently there are competitions before the opening ceremony. Interesting...

yes, some team sports have a started before the official opening ceremony, I guess they can't fit all fixtures  into the 3 weeks of the official games.

Just edited at same time as your post. Is interesting that it starts before it officially starts lol

First medals awarded and Fox takes an early lead as the only one to have selected China.

The second post here has the relevant medal table. The 3rd post has our leader board. I will update these most days.

Scores updated, and copied into 2nd post (copy & paste seems more reliable using Chrome)

And after a good couple of days for the hosts and GB I have taken the lead.

I will double check everything before the final scores. But if someone thinks their score is wrong please say so and I'll check ASAP.

@Con not sure if you have noticed, but North Korea are not taking part and they are in your team. I obviously did not know that when I started this competition, only noticed today doing a quick check of scores and thinking it was a bit odd they had no medals yet.

So I think to be fair you should be allowed to replace them with one of the others at the same value. So I'll make a random selction from Turkey, Croatia, Slovakia, South Africa, Thailand or Uzebkistan.
