This is probably the first positive speed test I have ran with my isp. They are crap, but at this time and day, seems to be about proper lol.

Is that from your new flat???

Yeah its the new place, they did advertise it as 200mb but I thought thats just the usual selling points of upto 200mb when it might have only been 120-150. I've actually been getting speeds of about 210 in more recent tests.

I've been doing some extensive testing on my internet, while my laptop is connected via LAN I can get the 200mb advertised speeds however when I connect via wifi I can only get a maximum of 54mb. This is because my laptop can't access the 5ghz channel that the higher speeds require. This is fixable with a £10 dongle which I'll be purchasing soon.

What is interesting is that my PS4 even though connected via LAN can still only achieve download speeds of around 75mb. Has anyone got any experience of being able to open up the PS4 to maximum download speed or is it limited to 75mb?

In relation to this, would a 5ghz dongle also work on the PS4?

PS4 speeds are estimates only and the speed is limited.

75MB is higher than the 60-65MB I get via the PS4, but I also don't get 200MB at home yet, still on 160MB.

EDIT: WIFI speeds are always slower as there's a lot more encryption, especially on a console.

So is there something within the PS4 that means it's not making the most of the full bandwidth even if you're connected via LAN

I think so.

200MB through a PS4 probably won't happen, I suspect Sony can restrict speeds via their network and that would explain why my speeds vary throughout the day via PS4 and not via PC.

Not to mention all consoles probably still have a 100mbit network card installed.

I WAS pretty sure sure that's the case after doing some ping tests on my network, but I tore the console down when replacing the hard drive to clean everything. It does have a Ethernet 10/100/1000 card. I don't think it's fully optimized or buss speeds can't use the bandwidth.

I've just installed my 5Ghz dongle on my laptop and I'm impressed by the speed difference.

Now getting around 115mb down and 12 up over Wi-Fi :D

Anyone heard anything about Li-Fi?

Sounds like a Chinese dish. :D

Used speed of me. Will be slower than normal as Libertad is working right now and his work tends to increase lag.

Used speed of me on PS4

Via Sydney test server:

Download 11.07Mbps

Upload 0.78Mbps

Latency 101ms

I am no stranger to being shot a few seconds after I've gone in cover or to be killed mid roll which is why you'll often see me do quick peek a boos out from cover to test the waters xP Depending on who I'm playing with headshots also sometimes don't register. Doesn't happen often enough for me to rage quit though haha. I definitely have less lag when playing with the Australians in general.

On ADSL in an urban area, hoping to get fibre within the next year.

Ping results using pingtest on speedtest.net on hardwired computer:

LA: 163ms

Texas and NY: 219ms

GB: 310ms

Ireland and Poland: 346ms

Adelaide: 74ms

Canada: 230ms

NZ: 30ms

If anyone wants to see their ping to me Tauranga server in New Zealand is closest to me.

Had 100 Internet installed today. They had to repair the main connection to the house.

Tested using my tablet,  connected to wifi. 85 DL 12 UL 19ping

PS4 can DL much faster now. Any way to test it's connection aside from the settings test that shows incorrect "estimates"?

That's insanely fast DC !!!!

I think mine is pretty decent with this :

May I ask how much per month your internet is costing you guys ?

For me it's 39€ / month (£30, 43$)

I have an 200/100 optic fiber connection and unlimited traffic, I pay 75€... I wouldn't mind to pay more :D (for a faster connection)

I've done a few tests over the past couple of months and the results I'm getting are pretty consistent and enough to make me cry! All the test were done using a wired connection.

To the Melbourne test server: Download: 14.5 Mb/s Upload: 0.9 Mb/s Ping: 18 ms

If this wasn't bad enough, my ping times around the world are:

Adelaide: 91 ms Germany: 365 ms UK: 419 ms New York: 358 ms Los Angeles: 358 ms

And if that wasn't bad enough, we're not even on the map for when the NBN might be rolled out in our area!

We live in a relatively new residential suburb and Telstra still has a monopoly on the lines into our area, so we have to use them or one of the other companies that's prepared to buy off them (we're with Dodo). This means we can't use Optus or TPG and these 2 seem to be able to provide the fastest ADSL2+ speeds!

I'll swap with you, Rich.  My upload and download speeds are half of yours. :D

Generally it's about 5mb down but can climb to whopping 7.5mb on a good day.  Upload speed hovers between 0.4 to 0.8mb.  My ping to the US is regularly about 400-500ms, and to the UK it's about 500-600ms.  Even with the higher ping to the UK, the lag is a lot better than to the US.  Might have something to do with the time of day over here.

I'm also stuck with Telstra lines that are underground.  Because of the high humidity here on the Gold Coast, the connections in the pits suffer from condensation and have to be replaced every 2-3 years.  That's why my stability goes up and down like a yo-yo during the Summer months.

My area is also not on the NBN roll-out map yet.  Hoping for a 2017 or 2018 upgrade, but who knows when it will actually get here. :(

EDIT.  Here are the tests I just did.  Ping seems to be OK today but download speeds are a bit lower than usual.

I took this test three different times and got these results:

Most of this is beyond me, but I do use an Ethernet cable for the PS4, and I ran this test from my laptop, which is connected to WiFi.

I honestly don't know whether any of this is good or bad. :P

Just out of curiosity, I also tested the server to Sydney, Australia to see the results.  This is what I got:

I live in a rural area and don't have many internet options. This is the result from my closest server and a few other countries as well.

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Portland, Oregon

London, United Kingdom

One thing I can't get my head around is the percentage of upload compared to download, it seems that Australia & Canada are very similar to the UK where the upload speed is around 10% of the download speed yet in some countries such as Grjkies his download is 50% of his upload and Lanns upload is about equal to his download.

What are the deciding factors of these percentages?
