I won't pretend to fully understand it so it's much simpler to say "GTA blows" and we move onto the next humorous/frustrating experience to share and bitch about

Haha, we didn't have to wait long for the next instalment of "Bad Lag"

Check this one out.   You weren't even in this lobby, G.   Maybe you were spectating.

By the way G.  I hope you don't think we're bitching.   :)

You're just the common denominator in some of these issues.

It's more about trying to understand why these things are happening, rather than pointing the blame at anyone or anything in particular.

On the flip-side, it must be annoying for you to read & hear this stuff too.

When any of us get a kill in a DM, it would be much better to hear "nice shot, G" rather than "oh c'mon...that's bullshit...you F'ing hacker"  :D

My day isn't complete here unless I'm a punchline somewhere somehow

"If you ride like lightning, you're gonna crash like thunder." - The Place Between The Pines

Ok, so I've been experiencing lag to some degree as well and have been running PS4 wirelessly. So I bought a Ethernet LAN cable just now and hooked it up. I'm hoping this takes most of my lag away.

Depending how far away from your router the ps4 is it can make a big difference. Mine is right next to it and I have tested wireless and wired. Even with it about 1.5m (5ft) the speeds and ping were only a bit slower but they do have moments where it would drop a fair bit so it will be a much more stable connection and help rule out some issues.

Something I've noticed over time, especially with (T)DM's, is that in the first half I usually get owned like there is no tomorrow and in the second half I'm doing a lot better. Is there some catching up or compensation going on over the course of a job and has it got anything to do with lag? I'm well aware I'm the diesel type of gamer (need some warming up), but still I wonder ...

Enrefne and I experience the same thing(in the above posts somewhere). It seems to to take 5 mins and then the tables turn. When it's acting up really bad, I won't get a single kill for the first half against anyone and then all of a sudden I'll be dominating and become MVP.

In my PL, we have only been playing DMs for 5 mins cause there isn't usually many of us and the other night it was really one sided. We struggled to get any kills and it stayed like that the whole time.

Another frustrating one is when the shots take a while to register. So I'll shoot, and then go back behind cover and when I get back in cover they decide to die.. That gives them an extra half a second or so to kill you if you were exposed.

I'm surprised with Hatch as well. He used to lag (mostly noticeable in races) but doesn't really at all any more and he is completely wireless. There doesn't really seem to be anything consistent about why some people experience it bad or not. I guess it also depends on your location too and how far away from the city you are.

I think it also has to do with the hosts connection and location too. But yeah sometimes it's good, sometimes not so much. It would also have to do with how busy your ISP traffic is, and the GTA servers are.

Don't know what causes it, but shitty connections suck the joy out of this game for me.

Races...everyone is in stock cars but other players zoom by you in the same car...other cars getting a 3-5 second head start while you're stuck at the starting line...all that seems legit.

Deathmatches...when it looks like 100% of me is behind cover and I get killed, that means I was not behind cover to the person who killed me...I get the drop on someone and pump a clip into there face, they survive, then aim at me and kill me instantly...all that seems legit.

Another thing is my PS4 constantly loses wifi connectivity yet my phone and tablet are in the same location and never have issues with that.

WiFi is the cause of your issues. I see you lagging all the time. In that TDM at the beach during Snacks PL, your blip was bouncing from one area of the map to another. No doubt your connection will be improved with an ethernet wire.

The race start is a game bug, it happens to everyone, I've seen players start 3 seconds before me. Going faster in a stock car is easy - keep more corner speed, don't damage the the car and use kerb boost to gain quicker acceleration.

The lag kills in DM's is always gonna be an issue, sometimes you're not fully behind cover and sometimes the lag delay means you'll be killed right before reaching a safe zone. A clip in the face and no kill isn't always lag as BST and quad damage could be a factor.

I think most of your issues will be gone if you use an ethernet wire.

When I played Destiny multiplayer, I never experienced lag or issues with hit detection. Same with the multiplayer games I played on the 360.

Depends what type of connection the game uses. P2P games are notorious for lag when using WiFi. F1 used to be the same... Flying cars etc.

A game with a dedicated server will be much better for you, but I can't see GTA getting that.

It depends how far away the ps4 is from the router and how good the router is. There are also router settings to prioritise bandwidth to certain devices, and just using multiple things at once will load up the bandwidth. Best to try to eliminate any potential problems cause as we know rockstar and psn has enough of their own.

The biggest thing is the stability with being hard wired.

Today's deathmatches were pretty sucky cause of lag, and super bad with shotgun wedding. Not sure why, but G got to finally experience my pain and why I dislike shotgun wedding so much now.

Ever since the heist update, the game it self isn't running as smooth, probably because of all the extra detail. You would think the ps4 can handle it but maybe not.

Lol yeah that was ridiculous.

For wireless users out there .. I'm really surprised PS4 doesn't utilize 5 GHz. I imagine you probably have a ton of shit synced up to 2.4 GHz which may cause a strain on your gaming experience. The 5 GHz frequency can offer a real relief to overcrowding on your network. For the devices that support it, I have them set up for 5 GHz. it offers a clearer signal, more non-overlapping channels and can boast higher speeds. Disadvantages include shorter range, cost and no real backwards compatibility. Might be something to think about though, if it's possible for you to reduce the load on the 2.4 GHz frequency.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but I like it.

I snuck up on Goon in a pistol DM shot him 6 times at least, tapped up as quick as I could for headshots, ran out of bullets then was shot once and dropped. Not sure if the other players quad damage has anything to do with how fast I die, but I can unload a magazine into someone and not drop them. For this reason and this reason only I get pissed off doing DMs. I feel as though I let the team down, yet I know it's not my fault. It happens all the time for me, my crosshair follows them rather than locking onto them or I shoot them so many times 1st yet they turn around and drop me instantly. I lag out in races as my screen freezes for a second or 2 and all those just behind me are suddenly in front of me, but with races you can always catch up if you make no mistakes. DMs are a different story. They are heaps of fun when it works properly though, but for me that is rare. We don't have fibre optic cable where I live, just shitty coax, so for about 3 more years ill have to put up with what I've got, until the fibre optics roll out.

We all know melee DMs are notoriously bad so it's to be expected, but still frustrating.. Hatch wasn u ping around the screen a bit any way but I thought it was kinda funny. They seem to have added some new animations for knifing people, just wish they would make it work properly, and not be stabbed 5 times to death by someone who isn't on your screen..

Last night was a son of a bitch for me, on my screen I was knifing and shooting the shit out of all of you only to take a hit out of nowhere and die. I was almost to the point of rage quitting.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

:default_sign0081:

i hate when in a tdm you are shooting someone and their character falls to the ground you assume they are dead and stop shooting then the next second they pop back up and kill you. watching people lag in races is one thing but i find it difficult in tdms when someone is lagging around real bad. like someone said earlier you will see their blip on the map just moving all over with like a blurr behind it. but it is what it is no game is perfect and especially with rockstars servers it never is gonna be perfect so what ever happens happens and i just try to enjoy it.

Hatch was lagging for me last night.  Kept warping in TDM's.  A lot of us were experiencing the lag during last night's PL.

In a DM when you're getting slaughtered, the game gives you the option to hit square and reveal all players blips or triangle for quad damage.

You mean all this time I've been getting my ass kicked there were more options? Lol. Sorry to hear that Rev, you seemed to be killing me just fine ;)

It's hard not to get frustrated when this happens. It also happened again 10 seconds later with LN. Am I whining too much or does it seem like a pretty unfair kill? Obviously it's not what G saw, but damn this game is frustrating..
