Did you like it?

What's it taste like?

I have not tried it, other than eating a live largemouth bass once on a bet. And yes, it tastes as bad as it seems. (young and dumb but $100 richer)

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Sushi done well, is a delight to eat. There is a fantastic mix of flavors, textures and even temperatures.

Officially Sushi is the way the rice is prepared and not necessarily in regards to fish.

Yes, when fish is used it is traditionally raw, but it is deep frozen direct off the boat so just as safe if not safer than most of the foods we consume.

That being said, I would not eat Sushi from a restaurant that either serves italian dishes or has an empty parking lot.

Nothing against italian restaurants, just stick to the places that specialize in it. Especially if you are going to try it for the first time.

Ive never really tried sushi. Once I tried a swedish delicacy called surstoming (not sure if thats spelt correctly). I don't mind the smell of fish (depending upon where its coming from) but this was something else. Afterwards someone told me that its basically just rotting fish. It wasn't pleasant

To me, there is a very thin line between good (tolerable?) sushi and stuff that is rancid. Tried some at a little sushi place near Madison WI and it was just awful. The Japanese couple that I went with seemed to like it, though. I also tried some in Vegas last year and it was really good! I don't think I could describe the taste, but I tried 4 or 5 different types and they were all delicious. So, what I'm really trying to say it try it from a couple of different places if you are going to try it.

I should also note that I detest most seafood and fish, most of it just doesn't taste right to me.

Being from the east coast of Canada, I saw where the bluefin tuna come from, how they are caught, handled and such for sushi. It is a taste that you either love it or hate it. Personally I love it, thinly sliced raw tuna belly draped over delicious sushi rice, with a small bit of wasabi ! Yummy

Hehe, don't compare surströmming and sushi ;) Surströmming is fermented herring while sushi is fresh fish. Havent tried surströmming tho (yet), so Im not gonna diss it.

I like sushi alot. Would like to try it at a better restaurant some time, but its not that available in Sweden. Not very good at describing tastes either, but I can try. So the rice is the tasty, fluffy and moist kind (nota whole grain kinda guy). I usually soak it with japanese soy, which is very salty and reminds you somewhat of mushrooms. The fish tastes (or SHOULD taste) very fresh, similar to cured salmon but not as sweet. If you enjoy cured salmon or cold smoked oily fish (as opposed to the more dry kinds) you should appreciate sushi.

If it do taste fishy in the bad way its probably not a very good restaurant.

Mm-mhm! Eel-sushi! Like the sound of that!

Tuna, eel, and shrimp sushi is good.

Everything else I've tried was nasty.

Agree with Ernyoung... Sushi is great if well done and if you find a place that mixes italian and sushi, well tell me where it is and I'll pay them a visit to high five them ... With a chair ... In the head. Im kinda susceptible about this cause I myself work in an italian restaurant abroad and I can't count how many fakes there are, both sushi and italian places

Yeah i did. Because i was forced! :P

It wasnt thaaaat bad u know?? It is different than the cooked meals we're all used too. You guys should try it, it won't hurt you. Just make sure u choose a good restaurant, because there is good sushi and awful shitty sushi.

Can't try something that looks and smells disgusting.  I also won't eat mushrooms for that same reason.  Not kidding.

I think a lot of it is your mindset.. You have already decided its not good so it won't be.

Sushi has taken off in maybe the last 10years or so here.. I have no idea why though. When I was in Japan I did try a lot of their traditional food.

I have tried their sushi and it was actually quite nice. Nice little rice ball thing with a prawn or fish on it. Went down pretty well along with some the other foods :)

As Ern said, make sure you go to a reputable place to try it so you know it's fresh and as good as it gets.

I've tried sushi on a couple occasions. I don't like the rolls that have the big piece of fish on top of it just because im not a big fan of fish ( I love other seafood like shellfish and what not though). I personally love the fried sushi. Now I know that might sound like an oxymoron lol but it's good. It's like a slice of fried heaven. Make you wanna say umami haha

Now a good reason to go to a sushi place is sake. Oh lord Sake is wonderful and very smooth. I prefer it cold and flavored but still very good warm and traditional.

One day the sadness will end.

Have never been a big fan of seafood, but you know what, I actually enjoy Sushi.

I don't love it, & wouldn't choose it over a nice juicy steak, but if it's on offer, I'll have a piece or two.  I quite often find myself going back for more.  :)

Still a bit wary of the strong fishy varieties, but the more subtle ones are quite yummy.

Like Scotty said, you need to go in with an open mind, and it's not like you have to order a massive plate of the stuff.

Just try a piece or two at a reputable restaurant or sushi bar.

There should also be non-seafood varieties available too. (chicken, beef, vegetable).

Not sure if they can be classed as a true sushi experience or not, but they're great for someone who's a bit apprehensive.

Give it a go.  It'll be interesting to hear what you "sushi virgins" think of it.

I love it ! Not just sushi but japanese food in general, provided of course you get it at a proper japanese restaurant. There are so many different tastes, textures, varieties, hot/cold, fresh, cooked ... and I think it looks beautiful as well ! Also a big fan of seafood, fish, shelfish, snales, you name it.

I guess it's all in the mind and also depends on personal taste and what you are used to. I'll pretty much eat anything, just stay the hell away with organs (brain, kidney, liver, ...), yuk !
