I don't have headset. I'm considering getting one for Heists. But I wanted to ask how useful are they?

I've done a few heist missions, mainly just from answering random invites. Some of these were with  players who had headsets but none of them has ever used the headset to give instructions once the mission has started. Maybe that's because no one on these heists knew enough to be able to give advice, or maybe we all just figured what to do fairly easily on our own. But it does make me wonder how necessary a head set is. I would have thought that players who have done the heist before could give good advice over the headset to those that haven't. But the only chat I have overheard so far from players with headsets is arguing over what % cut someone gets.

So those of you who have headsets, how are they best used in Heists?

Then assuming I do end up getting one, any recommendations? This is for PS3 and I'm in the UK. Prices seem to range from £10 to more than £50. What do you get for the more expensive ones that the cheaper ones don't do?

Thanks,

DJ

You definately need a headset, there are certain missions that need to be coordinated with your teammates. You don't need an expensive one, I use one for ps4 that was $15 canadian and works just fine.

Hi, definitely worth getting a set, plenty of info in the 'Headset options and Communications' thread.

Personally I use the Turtle Beach PX22 (£49 on Amazon at the moment which isn't bad, they do go up from time to time). With the inline amp you can adjust bass, treble, game volume, chat volume, and Mic monitor. I use the game and chat volumes a lot when it's difficult hearing some people.  I only ever use the mic when in a Crew session and tend to turn chat down when in public sessions so I don't have to listen to Muppets.

When playing in Crew sessions it adds a whole new element to the game :)

I bought the Headset just for the Heists a week ago. The reason was because there are situations where you need to be able to communicate with other players.

Now I am playing the Heists the R* wanted it to be played. It brings so many more new aspects to the game. As a Leader the hardest part is to assign roles and headset makes it so much easier. You can talk about tactics and how people have done it /  What's the success rate / what's coming ahead / how to proceed / and why someone did something.

It's been a invaluable add.

About the Headset quality and the cost.

I bought Razer Kraken (The USB one) and I have to say the only problem is PS3. The way PS3 processes the audio signal makes it sound really bad. So it dosen't really matter does the headset cost 100 euros or 10 euros unless you are in next gen. consoles or you are using Skype.

I think BT Headset meant for mobiles when driving works just as good on PS3.

And after you've played with Team where everyone has a Mic you don't even want to start a Heist if someone is missing a Mic.

Seems like lots of randoms don't use mics, which is why they are randoms. Communication is vital for completing them smoothly, I find a lot that people use party chat so you may think they aren't talking but they may be in a party. Definitely worth buying. Improves your effectiveness greatly.

I bought these a year ago and they work a charm, not to mention 2 kids that like to play with them also. Good sound, good mic. Excellent value in my opinion. They are wired in but the cord is super long and it doesn't seem to tangle up.

You definitely need a mic with heist and missions too, not to mention PL's too ;)

I've got myself a basic headset. It dosen't seem to be working though. But before I take it back to shop as a faulty product, can I check that there isn't something I need to do that I haven't done please? (bearing in mind this is the first time I have ever tried to use a headset for gaming).

The instructions just say to plug it into the USB port. That's it.

The only controls on it are the volume, a mute mic button and a mute all button.

I have turned the volume up as far as possible and tried all combinations of the two buttons, just incase what I thought was on was actually off, but nothing is happening.

Chat is set to "everyone".

Thanks,

DJ
