Fido_le_muet 5,198
Hey DB, I'm planning on doing a lot more cycling/mountain biking this spring and summer and was wondering if you knew some great apps to track your runs. I currently use Mapmyride and it's OK. I also have Runtastic but I never use it I know a lot of you love your biking trips so what app do you use? Also, feel free to share your runs stats in the future Edited April 6, 2015 by Fido_le_muet Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/5119-cyclingmountain-biking-app/ Share on other sites
Xyon14 2,312
My husband uses Strava for his mountain biking, it tracks his runs, miles like a gps. It works on your mobile phone http://www.strava.com/ 1 Quote Crew Policies and Vetting Procedure Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/5119-cyclingmountain-biking-app/#findComment-81536 Share on other sites
Pb76 3,952
I use sportstracker, it's free and does the job. Records your route using gps, works out your calories burned and stuff. ScottyB 2,086
I haven't ever bothered tracking what I do, haven't gotten into riding as much as I would have liked. I will be slowly increasing what I do over the next few months and will most likely get something to monitor progress. I was thinking to get a Fitbit or something like that. Does anyone have any experience with that? How would you rate it? I'm not a huge calorie tracker because it takes too damn long. The Flex is great to track steps, calories burned, active minutes and hours slept. That's all I really use it for and that's what the Flex does. There's a few other things you can track with the Flex, but that's what I use it for. Plus, I love having the ability to compete with your friends. If your friend's have Fitbit's, you can add them to your friend's list with their e-mail address. It's a good way to stay motivated. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/5119-cyclingmountain-biking-app/#findComment-81638 Share on other sites

I read a review on the older models and apparently the calories burned isn't too accurate but they may have fixed it. I guess it's still a tangible goal to work with and you can adjust accordingly.About 3 years ago I got right into fitness and was counting everything I ate using the "my fitness pal" app. It worked pretty good but you had to enter everything in. Once it's there you can just click on it so it was easy after that as I pretty much ate the same thing everyday. My GF wants to get the Fitbit so she will have one soon and I might get one too to try and help motivate me lose some weight again. Edit: would a Fitbit and it's app be as good or atleast suitable for tracking mtb riding or would a more specific cycling app be better? My main cardio is going to be cycling along with weights at the gym. Jaggy 2,811
I haven't noticed any issues with calories in vs calories out/calories burnt on my Fitbit. I have the newer Flex though. Never got the first gen one. Fitbit devices can sync up with MyFitnesPal too. I have a MFP account, but only use it to track my weight/measurements. It was too stressful counting calories every day. For me, it's more relaxing to workout and cut back on my portions and eat healthier. It seems to do the trick. The Fitbit would not be very helpful for mountain biking/cycling as you place it on your wrist. It wouldn't really track any movements. I'd use some of the other apps listed above for tracking stuff like that.
