GTA 5 PC - Questions, opinions & ramblings

Recommended Posts

So who here is getting PC? I made this thread cause I have a few questions & thought since this is about to drop, we could consolidate anything related.

Honestly, I'd love to get it. 60 FPS, even better fidelity, dayum! Plus the servers may be more stable lol, who knows?

Anyways, I'm wondering if we're going to have a PC side for the crew, if we have enough members getting it. Also I'm wondering if your character (ps3/ps4 can transfer, I know) can transfer to PC & back to console?

Other than that, I'm hesitant because I don't want to blow $60 & find I can't obtain ideal performance.

Asus RoG laptop G750JM is what I got, 8 gigs ram, geforce 860m & core I7 4700HQ. Compared to the recommended specs, I think I'm on par, but I'm concerned about my CPU performance, compared to their recommended processor, which is an I5.

I've already pre-loaded it, and waiting for 6 more hours to check it out.

You'll be able to transfer any characters from any of the consoles to PC, but transferring is always a one-way street.  Your character would split into two copies, and live their lives out independently on both systems.

I'll post settings required to achieve 60fps on that system.  I'm 12GB RAM, i7-4710HQ @ 2.50 GHz, and GeForce 860M as well so my results should be on par for you.

Sweet dude! Let me know how it goes!

My worst fear/concern about gta PC is modders/hackers, etc. Of course I could still just load into a private lobby or join on friends/crew.

Let us know how the load times are too! IMO, they're shitty titties on ps3. If I wanted to stare at the clouds all day I'd look out my window haha

We won't expanding to PC. However, as I have said before, any crew member who chooses to game on PC won't be kicked from the crew for doing, but we won't be taking any new PC only members. The reasons - 1 you posted (hackers/modders) and we do not condone that, also we do not have any staff structure for PC to ensure the crew policy is followed.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

:default_sign0081:

How do you drive vehicles on PC? Do you use the keys to steer? I've only played a little bit of battlefield 4 on PC and I just can't get comfortable while playing it or I can't play it for long. Driving sucks on it as you can't use finer movements to control the accelerator, brakes or steering.

The graphics will no doubt be amazing but unfortunately I don't think I can ever really get into playing on a PC.

It's beautiful. I only got to play the prologue so far, but holy cow does it ever look purdy.

Your laptop is quite capable of running the game at high and very high settings Eternal. No worries there.

Did you use fraps to monitor your fps or anything?

I read on Steam that GTA 5 will have FULL controller support, which to me sold me on the game. I have a wired xb360 controller that I use w/ my gaming laptop.

The shitty thing is, I just got this laptop as a used floor model from best buy in like august of last year & now my battery isn't accepting a charge. From what i've tried so far it seems like the battery itself is fried.
Im planning on going to best buy later this week.

Either way it's not a huge deal about the battery. I generally connect it to my TV when I wanna play my more "console" oriented games.

RE5 for example.

I used the optimized settings from Nvidia.  You'll get 40 fps using them.  Everything is high or very high at 1080p, EXCEPT Texture Quality (which is normal).  Texture quality has a huge impact on your  performance.  Ultimately it comes down to how much you have to think about spending another $60 for something you already have.

I would also suggest a controller for driving, and KB&M for shooting game types.  Driving/Flying with the KB&M is kinda sketchy.

We may not be expanding to PC, but we can still play together!

Add me on steam if you've got it. Name is(you guessed it) Mailbox_Bomber

if/whenever I get gta on pc, we'll definitely play together. Mine is FleshWound I believe.

So far the eye candy is jaw dropping

60 fps on maxed out settings at 1280x1024 (yeah, old monitors...)

Got about 5 hours of story mode in so far and no freezing, stuttering, lockups or crashes.

Haven't tried flying yet - too busy messing around with controls - mouse steering made it back in, but the settings for it are somewhat pooched - at least on motorbikes.  Nowhere near as good as the mouse steering in San Andreas.  Although it's possible I'm setting it up wrong.

Not sure if it's a bug or that I'm not far enough into the story, but my Franklin bought the $30k garage in Grove Street and the only freebie car it offers is the Elegy.

First person view is good to have, but I suspect you really need a wide format screen to make it usable - my screens are 5:4 format and too old to use in multi monitor config for gaming, so I just use the middle one.  I imagine a FOV tweak may be added via updates or modding at some point.  If not, I'll just *have* to get one of them ultra wide panels (sorry honey! We'll get groceries next month.  Promise.)

Seems that the blimp is available on SP mode phones, so I think I may take a scenic look around later today.

Definitely worth the wait(s)

Yours Aye,

Glad your having fun bear. Let me know if you get any pop-in for roads/buildings/scenery etc. To this point, gta 3, san andreas, vice city, 4 & 5 have all had shitty pop in. I want to say 5 imo has the worst pop in & for me that's the biggest immersion breaker.

  • 2 weeks later...

not sure what you mean by "pop-in", but my graphics have been darn close to flawless throughout.  I think the detail drawing distance could be better, but I suspect there aren't that many rigs out there that would be able to handle the load.  I had occasional stutters for the first time last night, but my rig was ripping CD audio, uploading mp3's to my phone, avi's to my tablet, backing up files to the nas and downloading sundry program updates - all at the same time (my version of a real world stress test).

The only real gripe(s) I have so far...

  • mouse steering on bikes in on the bad side of "funky"
  • no native support for flight sticks
  • the "turbulence" is still way over the top in all flight modes
  • the first person view when driving is too low (remember when your dad let you sit behind the wheel when you were six?)
  • the FOV needs to be adjustable in first person driving
  • first person driving needs to have the shaking dampened - even at a steady 60fps it's totally unrealistic
  • would be nice to have a hotkey to switch to 1st person view without having to scroll through the other 3rd person views
  • would be nice to have a hotkey to turn the hood view on and off without going into menu, (especially in flight - I love that the instruments work - kinda-sorta - but sometimes they get in the way)

Hopefully the modding community will be able to fix some of these if R* can't be bothered.

I bought a copy while drunk the other night. I now have gta on 4 platforms. Xbox360, ps3, ps4 and pc. I have to say without a doubt the prettiest version so far is PC hands down.

As Mangfish said, the reflection quality is amazing although all of it looks good. The frame rate makes it run so smooth its like drinking a ice cold beer on a hot day.

To be fair, i havent come across and modders yet but it is early days, plus im not worried about a few modded skins on the cars just the bellends that have infinte: roll, ammo, health, armour.

I believe the game falls down online due to there be no servers to host the session but it uses p2p instead. So first person in a session hosts that session for all peoole joining. (this info is just what i have heard though)

Anyway, if any of you fine people have it, add me on rsc, its going to share "main platform" status with my ps4 for a while at least.

Infinite roll, snacks and 100% accuracy with all weapons is on PS3 which can then be transferred to PS4 as it sticks to the character.

Its a shame people go to those lengths to try and get ahead in the game.

I was in a pc lobby earlier and some had transformed everybody into ine of the arcade machines.... It was kind of funny all the arcade machines running about though.... I would imagine it would get tiresome pretty quick though.

I agree, I'd find it funny to be transformed at first, but it wouldn't last.

I think it goes hand-in-hand with the average GTA gamer, they seem to think that it impresses others.

Honest players like XDBX members are certainly a minority.

The kinda shit they can do with the PC version is quite cool, but it becomes a huge problem when they take it online.
