First impressions of this game are very positive.

The combat seems balanced and well thought out, only one multiplayer option in the beta for ground assault but I didn’t notice anything too overpowering, the crate system not as bad as I feared, I wouldn’t say the weapons and skills gained give you a huge advantage just a different style of play. Even the heroes seem to have some balance although when you’re in a crowded hallway and you hear the thrum of a lightsaber you know shit is about to go down.

The system of getting to play the heroes isn’t all based on combat either, if you’re not a top shooter you can still finish high up and gain the advantages by playing the objectives. I’m not sure if I will play the pure killing modes much but I do like the strategic style of play.

Flying is a different story. All the movement controls are done using the right stick with vehicle roll using the left. This feels incredibly unintuitive and I’ve not managed to get to grips with it yet. 99% of my deaths when flying have happened because I crashed. I need to have more practice at that before I give further feedback.

The map we played looked fantastic, although it doesn’t have the destructibity of Battlefield maps it’s definitely alive with so much going on, as you start the mission civilians run everywhere, droids arrive in MTT’s and you see them deploy, captured Clones are held at gunpoint.

It’s not really a game that promotes being a lone wolf, there are benefits to remaining with your squad, working together makes clearing objectives easier and a good team would completely dominate this style of game.

Think I’ll definitely be getting it, the single player campaign intruiges me and there’s a few options for multiplayer player. Traditional online PvP is known but there’s also co-op missions and the ability to play local splitscreen as well. This is something that has been missing from a lot of games.

I’ve only played it on the PS4 so far, I may see what kind of differences there are on the PC version too but the version I’d buy would be the PS4 as I’d have the greater number of people to play with.

If you haven’t tried it....

Sorry to miss you yesterday @Squirrel been off work sick and was huddled up in bed all day yesterday... typical to be ill on Star War weekend.

There are 3 online modes to play, Galactic Assault, Starfighter and Strike. Strike is an option on the far right of the screen.

The native flying controls are awful, go into the options and change star fighter controls to Southpaw (I think) this will move the flying over to the left stick and acceleration over to the right stick making things a lot easier.

Will try and get online today as I am feeling a little better and have set up a man flu camp in the front room.

Edit: I actually enjoy the crates too, hated them in BF1 but I am more familiar with their content here and actually enjoyed opening them.

Can you smell what the Stone is cooking?

I thought there was only the two modes, then I was watching someone on YouTube and moaning we can't play the map he was playing. Bing filled me in and showed me how to play it. It's not easy being old Squirrel

I am now having real issues with the Starfighter Controls...

I got them all sorted in a Tie Fighter, up down, left and right on the left stick and throttle on the right stick. It took ages to figure out and I only got about 30 seconds of gaming before the game was over.

Next round started and I launched in an X-wing, all the controls went to piss. Checked the options and nothing had moved! Spent the whole match trying differetn stick layouts but could not get everything on the left stick like I could for the Tie Fighter. It is like it resets every round/game but the options do not change as I had it all sorted yesterday but it went wrong again today.

Hopefully this is just a Beta issue and exactly why we are testing for them.

Nice vids @Con just flicked through the second one to hear @LimeGreenLegend getting excited that he killed PaperSkullKid

@Beez unfortunately that is probably how a clone would do against Darth Maul, if you see him coming just run.

Can you smell what the Stone is cooking?

By the end of the weekend everyone playing has learned how the Theed mission worked. What seem balanced to start with in terms of both teams having an equal chance of victory ended up with a Clone victory all the time. They may need to look at that for the game release. Playing the objective is definitely the way forward in that style of play.

Just had a quick go at Starfighter assault on my lunch now I know how to alter the controls. So much better being able to use the left stick for controls. I’m a lot more confident about playing that part of the game now. Love the X-Wing taking down tie fighters. ?

Bing has just told me the Beat is extended until the 11th...

Unconfirmed but I hope its true.

Just googled and only seems to be unconfirmed sources from the last half hour.

I know the first games beta was extended but that was because it was very buggy, I’ve not really noticed any bugs but good for us and especially @Fido_le_muet if true.

EA have addressed the fans pay to win fears in their latest news post. You won't be able to get the best stuff straight away just by buying a load of loot crates. You have to unlock the best stuff through game progression.

Pre-ordered mine, I thought the release date was the 17th?

Either way I got to put it under the Christmas tree :(

The deluxe edition if you pre-ordered became available on the 14th.  I did not even know this but she did.  So it was a true surprise to get the disc last night!

@pete_95973 cheers dude, I preordered the deluxe for Bing, might pick it up tomorrow after work.

@Squirrel I thought it was more like 40 hours?

If I was a serious FPS player I might be pissed, however all I do is pick up and play to have a laugh. I am never gonna miss out on top spot on the leaderboard because I have not unlocked a weapon, I finish mid table because I am crap so loot boxes, upgrades don't mean crap to me.

Not sure where I stand on the heroes though, I don't always enjoy playing as heroes as I never know how to play the or what their strengths and moves are so again I am not bothered. I would however be pissed if playing as Vader was my thing... having to grind to unlock him is pretty poor however it is better than the hero pick ups that people used to hog in SWB1. I don't think having to unlock a hero is a bad thing as long as it does not take months or can be accessed quicker via a cash input.

It seems that EA are going to be crucified either way they choose. The original model was very pay to win, now it seems very grindy.

The other issue thats come up is in the Heros only mode. If you only have certain heros unlocked and someone else in that game is using that hero already you get kicked from the game. I think that is definitely something that needs to be looked at.

How many of us have bought it or planning to get it very soon?

I was planning on getting it because I had so much fun playing with Chubb and Bling & Co. but i wasn't going to grind to become the ultimate jedi or anything. But you never know, I like getting good at stuff.
