Racing & Car questions from an amateur

Recommended Posts

So the more & more I race with the crew, the more I realize I'm shooting myself in the foot by not having the appropriate vehicles owned, let alone modded to feel competitive. Many of our fellow members, such as dodge, rev, onefre & more are excellent competitors & I'm hoping through this thread we can all work together to improve our skills.

Firstly, I'd like to ask the more experienced racers & long term players a few questions.

I've heard through the GTA forums & else where that your tires have an effect, not only with traction but also when you "pop" a curb. I've heard off-road is the best tire in regards to handling curbs, as the thicker side wall will let you take the curb easier.

I have tried fiddling with muscle, high-end, sports & off-road tires & to me, I don't really notice a difference. My favorite class of car is muscle, followed closely by sports & super.

Also, I've recently changed my suspension to stock, from competition & I feel this has made an impact on my driving, whether its' good or bad I haven't decided yet.

What are your feelings on tires & suspension?

Also, I'm curious what vehicles in each class our more experienced would suggest to invest in for racing/general purpose use.

Currently, I own a infernus (chosen over the vacca), non-armored kuruma, phoenix, dominater, corquette, bati 801, sanchez 2, sandking (2door). I have heard the sandking XL is 4wd, does anyone know if this is true? I haven't found one in the wild yet.

There is a video by a guy named Broughy where he shows a car taking a curb at an angle with regular tires, and with offroad. The regular tires have more bounce when you hit a curb on the road, whether its medians or corner curbs. If you are taking turns at speed, any extra bounce hitting a curb could totally lift your car off the ground and send you into a time killing spin. The off roads dont have more grip on dirt, and arent slower. So really they are the superior tire for hardcore racing so you can attack tracks with maximum aggression. Sadly the rims arent as nice.

As for cars, I was in a hardcore racing crew and I brought my Zentorno to some crew races. I thought I had the best car for max acceleration and great top end speed. But I saw most of them driving Turismos. And on tracks with a medium amount of turns, I soon found out why. They were getting through the turns faster than me, and my straightaway speed wasnt enough to make up for it. I JUST bought a Turismo this week. And after shaking it down, its my go to Super racer from now on. The car has better brakes than a Zentorno, so you can drive a little deeper into turns before braking. The Turismo has a slightly tighter turning radius, so you can take carousel turns and hairpins better and faster than a Zentorno that needs to brake harder to make those turns without hitting the outside walls. Unless its a track that really emphasizes top end speed like my new La Sarthe Beefier track ( shameless plug http://rsg.ms/a3678a0 ) you are going to want to pick the car that gets through turns faster and more agile. Also, I was noticing that at really slow speeds the Turismo front splitter was hitting even the lowest curbs. So I put it back up to stock, which hardly moves it up 5 pixels, and it STILL hit the curbs. But when I hit the curb straight on at "25 mph" the car goes over it like theres no splitter at all. So I went back to max competition suspension because I love the way the car snaps back easy to correct it self in a fast sliding turn. Something the Zentorno wont do with less grip.

On PS3 I think strong muscle racers still swear by the Dominator. You just have to know how to control it in turns, where it loves to step out easy. Control that, it rules the muscle cars still in competitive muscle races Ive been in.

Sandkings are over rated. My little Rebel SCHOOLS them in an Off Road series I created. Try your Sandking on this series of tracks. The Sandking doesnt have good suspension, so it feels very stiff taking jumps, and my Rebel can get further distance and height off of ramps and out turn the big Sandking in tighter turns. The Sandking is only competitive in a race JUST with Sandkings IMO. Unless you are racing tracks that SINK sanchez bikes on purpose, like my Off Road series does, everyone uses a bike for offroad lobby racing.

Dude that was super informative agent :D Thank you for sharing your wisdom! I'll buy a tursmo soon as I can afford it, even if I can't upgrade it, I may be able to handle it better than my infernus. I just got a blista a few minutes ago for the compact class & got that upgraded, though it put me at less than $1,000 after I was done lol. Though I'm sure the investment will pay off shortly.

Regarding suspension, from what I understood if you use the lowest suspension, it SHOULD improve handling/responsiveness? That's the impression I was under to begin with.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.
