The armor you get won't last long as taken king armor and weapons will be better but its something to do and will provide quite an advantage early on . Have you gone through the previous DLC content? The only other things to do are the heroic and nightfall strikes or start another character? Without the DLC's you are also missing out on the Prison of Elders. I would recommend waiting till you can get all rather than piece them in one at a time, cheaper to buy all at the same time.
