The Zakspeed Ford Turbo Capri, driven by Mr Zakspeed himself.

Listen to that sound when the driver floors it!

Just a 1.4 lire engine as well.

Love this car, one of my favourites of all time.

Wow, that is the most '80's sounding music ever at the beginning!

Then I realized the video quality was really good then noticed the vehicles trackside look modern so this must be a vintage event.

The car sounds fantastic and just ooozzes racecar cool! How is a Mini even in the same class? Must be multi class race but they should start the fast class 1st.

Here's what you get if you could combine the 6x6 Dubsta (G-wagen) and the Duneloader (Dodge Power Wagon).

Yeah historic events have many classes, but I'd say that was fairly recent, looks like Nurburgring GP, but not the actual GP circuit.

Quite a good race with the Porsche, Capri has 600BHP and a 1.50 bar turbo, but the Porsche still pulls away on the straights.

Constantly adjusting that turbo pressure as well.

That looks like a cool truck, Jay Leno has the best collection of cars ever! His jet-powered thing (can't remember the name) is awesome too.

Gonna watch that video now :D

Holy crap! The Y2K turbine bike? When I worked at Cycle World magazine I got to go to Jay's garage to art direct a photo shoot of that bike. We also shot some of his Triumphs. I have a polaroid somewhere of me standing behind it where Jay would stand so we could get the lighting right. We had a large format camera and used a polaroid attachment to get an instant print to check lighting/framing. Pre digital days, ha ha. If I ever find that photo I must scan it. Later he gave us a ride in one of his steam cars. It was a unforgettable day.

Wow, a matter of inches away from putting that Escort right into the hedge... Great driving!

Perhaps you'll appreciate this 300BHP Escort fitted with replica Zakspeed bodykit http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/03/300hp-of-zakspeed-inspired-escort-awesome/

Note: All images on speedhunters.com can be downloaded as wallpapers.

Only 5 were made, people say only 1 remains, but there are many replica's out there.

Audi Quattro S1 Group B with 770 HP. One of the group B beasts from the eighties, a class which was soon banned before it even started after some unfortunate incidents where people lost their lives changing the face of rallying and bringing in much, much less powerful cars. Which wasn't a bad thing really because these machines are nuts!!

Lancia Delta S4, another of the group B cars, and my favourite of the time. Sounds like an insane bee with the supercharger. :)

I actually meant his '63 Chrysler Turbine, didn't know he had a turbine bike as well!

That's pretty awesome though, would be great if you did find the picture and upload it :)

@shortround- I loved the Group B's, yeah they were lethal, but I love it when motorsport goes wild and allows manufacturers to do what they want, kinda like F1 when pretty much every car was running a different engine... V8's, flat 6's, straight 6's, etc, etc. There were no limits.

The Audi Quattro is a legend, it kick-started 4WD rallying and put the RWD cars in their place, soon followed other awesome 4WD Group B's such as the Metro 6R4 and the Lancia Delta Integrale (known as the S4) to name a few.

Without the Quattro, road-going rally cars such as the Impreza STi WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo may not exist today.

In another "engineering before they tighten up the rules" category is the 1988 DAF twin engine Dakar Rally truck from Jan de Rooy. It had two 11.6 triple turbo, mid-mounted engines that produced a combine 1000hp. He was running 3rd overall when his teammate crashed and they withdrew from the rally.

There was also the truck with a cab on both ends. I don't know anything about it or why they made it but you van see it in this video at 1:19

Here's anther Pertolicious video.

This one's a pro touring 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am built by a New Zealander who worked for Toyota Rally, Pro Drive and now Ken Block.

Trans Am's will always be my fav car, the one in the video has a 77/78 nose on it, 79's looked much different in the front (though they all bolt up the same).  The yellow one in the video appears to be a 73 which would be awesome for a rebuild, anything pre 77 is somewhat rare cuz they werent real sought after cars until Smokey and the Bandit.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I had a '79, with 30k miles on it. Sold it 5 years ago for 8k.  Will look for some pics I have of it.

My dad gave it to me along with over 200 classic rock records.  Had them packed in the back and drove 200 miles to pick it up. Overheated at least 3 times.
