Fido_le_muet 5,198
Thread bump ! Going back to the insurance discussion. I'm amazed at how expensive it is on your Corsa @Aslad ! I drive a 2015 85hp Fiesta and my insurance is 450€ a year for an all included contract. Got my license in 2004 and never had an accident. Curious to see how it compares to your situation and what could explain such a huge difference. 2 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/915-your-garage-irl/page/10/#findComment-10656 Share on other sites

Sorry it took so long to reply 😛 Firstly, it'll be down to how long you've been driving - it was £1200 with a black box for my first year, £890 with no box second year and this year it has been £670, so it does drop slowly but painfully 🤣 (I got my license in 2017) It's a well known 'fact' that insurance companies rip you off in the UK, especially when it comes to young, new drivers. Finding any quote for under £1000 in your first year of driving would be impressive! Believe it or not, I actually got pretty cheap insurance for my first year - I know several people who paid £2500+ and even now three years later are in the +£1000 mark simply down to where they live in the UK (plus in some cases accidents etc). Essentially, I like to call insurance legal thievery 😛 I've paid more than the car's worth in insurance which is a bit depressing lol. However, since first introducing you all to the Corsa (over a year ago, wow!) it's had a lot of changes and modifications which I'll detail shortly in the car's dedicated thread (https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/topic/438-greg-the-corsa-progress-thread/). My photography has also improved (or so I like to think) and while I continue to modify this thing a lot, I have my sights set on a new car once I've gone on placement and saved up some money 😛 Currently looking at either a forged Corsa VXR Arctic Edition (1.6 Turbo, factory Remus exhaust, panoramic sunroof, only 500 made etc) or a Hyundai Coupe / Tiburon SIII (a weird choice but I love their looks even if they are pretty slow lol). Either way, that won't be for several months yet if at all lol. 2 Quote No, I didn't misspell Salad Vauxhall Corsa D (dead) Hyundai Coupe TSIII Fanclub Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/915-your-garage-irl/page/10/#findComment-214319 Share on other sites

JustHatched 12,123
Just aquired a 98 Chevy 1500 4wd, it has a new engine (0 miles on it), they put it and can't figure out why it won't run, I already know the timing is 180 degrees out. They gave the truck to me free. I don't feel bad about it because I told them the cause and they don;t wanna f*ck with it. Also got a 96 Ford 150 (also free), runs and drives, little rust, from same people, it was taking up space in their drive way. 3 Quote The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it. Sinister 2,583
I had a 1985 F250 years ago and it was a great old truck. I got it for free but put a lot of money under the hood. 351W, C6, 3.55 rear and it was a beast. Helps that I'm a car guy. I love them all. Well, I don't care for that fast and the furious "tuner" bullsh*t or stance or lifting cars for huge wheels that look like *ss. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/915-your-garage-irl/page/10/#findComment-216064 Share on other sites

doubleg213 746
Just to p*ss off Hatch, I've also recently acquired a new (to me) Ford. A guy who I've known since I was a kid used to run the Ford Puma rally championship in the UK and also built and ran some Puma Super 1600 kit cars for Ford in the WRC. He has a some original parts available still, but obviously they are starting to run low now so we've been doing some CAD models and getting setup to be able to reproduce stuff to works specification. But then to also do some proper FEM analysis on the stuff and hopefully then go stronger, lighter, cheaper as well. So to that end, I have acquired a Puma road car which I am intending to build to that spec, well at least until I get to the engine and gearbox stage where I may have to use an alternative sequential and either self modified or alternative engine. Also looking into doing an actual as close as we can replica R/C car with my 3D printer which would look identical underneath to the actual car rather than just a regular R/C with a body that looks like the original on top. I'm also on the lookout for a 3 door Sierra so I can look at a doing a group A RS500 spec car, but that is probably a bit overly optimistic right now. Especially as I want an old 635CSi and a 2002 up and running. Oh, and my other Fords are definitely worth something. I wouldn't pay what they are valued at for one myself, but the values are going up constantly. doubleg213 746
I'm not sure if I posted a picture of this already pre forum/thread merge so I am just going to post these anyway. A still as yet unfinished project Mk2 Escort. It's nothing fancy, just a 1600 crossflow, although as it's a Ghia it is the same spec as a Sport. The Sport "upgrades" include a 4 branch manifold, twin choke carb and a slightly higher lift cam so it chucks out a whopping 84 rampaging horses. One the one hand it's not too bad for something which was a development of a 1959 design. Although it's also hard to imagine that the same block provided the basis of the RS200 Group B engine and was capable of 800bhp in full group B trim. It also had a factory fitted close ratio gearbox as well. It's still only got 4 of the buggers though. It's a proper numbers matching car, so for now it's staying unmolested mechanically even daft stuff like the window date stamps all match up etc. However, I am debating either finishing it and selling it or selling as is so that I can put the money into bits for the Puma, BMW and my other Escort build. In the body shop, yes Hatch, it's a rusty Ford. Or just a Ford as they are more commonly known. First picutres are before the new roof skin was welded in, it had the 1980s curse of the aftermarket glass sunroof and it simply had to go. Rust be gone Not quite at the final primer stage yet A bit more shiny now. I'm leaving all of the back window stickers on the car just because that's the history of it and although it's a British Leyland sticker and therefore wrong for the car it's part ot it's story. The top left sticker is mega faded, but it's for a local radio station and really old so likewise is staying on there. 5 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/915-your-garage-irl/page/10/#findComment-219567 Share on other sites
