It's a total sh*t tip at the moment, trying to get the storage part sorted at the moment and move everything around so I can get the lathes etc. setup and have a proper workshop again, so the main barn is full of parts and the cars are all just dumped in there.

On the roof of the car is a Porsche GT3 RS rear wheel arch liner and all that crap at the front of the car (leaning on the wall) is my stock of Capri and Escort bonnets.

For the historically minded of you, that wall in the background is part of the original building. It dates from 1485!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I recently compiled all my many, many photos of Greg the Corsa and thought I'd introduce our American friends to the life of young drivers in the UK, where astronomical car insurance makes driving anything with an engine above 1.4l very expensive. Hell, my 1.2 litre, 85 horsepower hatchback still cost £1200 to insure in the first year of driving with a black box - to put that into perspective, the car is probably worth about £2500.. £3000 at a stretch. Anyways, since I have all these photos now I thought I'd share my 'progress' on it since I first bought it back in June 2017.

Since it's such a tiny engine, and insurance is extremely expensive anyway, I haven't and don't intend to do any engine modifications to it. Strictly visual or interior mods for me 🙂 The car in question is a 2011 Vauxhall Corsa D SXi (Pre-Facelift), which has been nicknamed Greg.

Picking Greg up (June 2017):

And thus began nearly two years of small, visual detail modifications, which I'll put in a spoiler below to avoid spamming too much 😛

Spoiler

The first thing I did was to add Footwell LED strips in both the front and back of the car:

Next up was some red pinstriping across the front bumper.

And then a shark-fin aerial:

That was it for a long time, until I moved to university in September 2018:

This is when I decided to do a bit more with the car, since I would be hanging on to it for the next couple of years at least. Firstly, one which I'd wanted to do almost from day one - a touchscreen stereo, which helped modernise the interior of the car greatly:

FiQtxjD.jpg

Next up was Plastidipping the chrome section of the front grille. Plastidip is essentially spray-paint that forms a sort of plastic coating when dry, meaning it can be peeled off if you mess up or decide you don't want it anymore.

After this, I managed to source a genuine Vauxhall spoiler from an old Corsa SRi. It was the wrong colour, but I had it resprayed to colour match Greg.

While it has no performance function, since it's a front-wheel drive hatchback, I think it gives the car a better look and nicer lines.

Next up was some more detailing, in the form of wind deflectors, tinted side indicator repeaters and some metal door pulls from a Corsa VXR to replace Greg's scratched plastic ones.

I then also had the car's dashboard lights changed from the horrible orange colour to a far nicer blue:

I attempted to vinyl wrap the interior to give it a nicer, more unique look, but a combination of poor quality wrap and my terrible practical skills meant this didn't work particularly well so I took it off again.

And finally (for the time-being), I got my hands on some second-hand aftermarket "Devil Eye" headlights, which feature daytime running lights and just a nicer, cleaner look in my opinion:

That brings us to now, and this is what Greg currently looks like:

While it might seem a waste of time to spend so much money on a small, powerless hatchback, it's something I enjoy doing, and fun to learn how to 'tinker' on cars even if it is very little in the way of mechanics. And yes, it's a very chavvy car that I've made even chavvier, but it's my chavvy car 😛

Hope you enjoyed 🙂

I thought Greg would have deserved his own thread...

Would have been cool to see all the changes (and wrap fails) build up over time.

I didn't know where to make it, so dumping it here instead seemed like a better option 😛

Nice looking car. I would cruise in it

Regarding your insurance prices, how does the engine size of that price compare to something with a 5+ litre V8?

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Either general Chit Chat In the public section or in the VANS Forum section. General chit chat may have been better as Greg would obviously soon pick up a fan base 😉

I don't even want to think how expensive that would be... most insurers would refuse it outright 😂😥

My 2nd oldest boy (turns 15 next week) bought his first vehicle yesterday with money he has been saving for a few years. a 1991 Dodge Dakota, rust and dent free with 318 V8 in it. The paint is peeling but everything it needs is fixable. He did a bit of haggling and managed to get it for $800

15 years old and a f*cking V8???

Goddamn, I'm 32 with a 1.6 litre 110bhp Nissan!!!

Definitely a difference in country/culture. That said alot of people in the USA lean towards economical vehicles but I am "old school 'Murica" and hold a strong lean to V8's. The 318 in that truck new only put out 170bhp, it is capable of alot more if properly modded.

Yeah I've never understood that about yank cars. Massive engines, but really pitiful output.

I never understood it either, the 80's and 90's were horrid when it came to output given the size of engines in American cars. The makers were really blind in that time to what should have been done. The Japanese car market was getting the same or better output with much smaller engines for less money. It's a no brainer why the "big 3" lost alot of ground in the market during those 2 decades.

Oh I'm sorry I was in a bit of a vomit situation here with my daughter :D

Well, you gotta learn to prioritize then.

I'll be back in a few years when I have money for something newer, bigger AND manlier!??

I don't think anyone has a 6.0 SuperDuty other than me here, but if anyone does, pipe up and I'll be doing some of the maintenance this engine needs to be done on a regular basis for it to live. Some is quite normal with a bit of a twist from norm, but other is quite unnormal in the automotive realm.

I can document it if anyone needs it.
