JALJ 541
@Xyon14 you're from Vancouver??? That is my favorite town in the world, god I love BC lol. I was actually just up there and my goodness that BC bud will put you on your arse lol. I used to be a really big stoner, smoked from morning to night but the combination of that, depression and alcohol had me go nearly insane so I stopped for a good while. I started smoking again but practice moderation. Still haven't gotten back to drinking as i feel I'm still a way more dangerous person on alcohol than smoking weed. Now I smoke concentrates sold in the cartridges you can connect to any vape battery. It's a good alternative I've found that has even helped to curve my cigarette smoking. It gives me a mild high that allows me to function. Although sometimes I still enjoy the flower. 2 Quote One day the sadness will end. Fido_le_muet 5,198
I tried it when I was a teen but didn't really have a big effect on me so I thought it was useless and moved on. Tried poppers once and that was way more fun ^^ Today, my view on drugs, even the softer ones like weed is pretty radical. I hate it. I wish it wouldn't exist but I'm very sad that it's becoming more and more normal and that more and more countries are legalizing it. I guess I'm in PB's corner on that one. Beez 5,091
@Fido_le_muet sorry to hear you feel that way. I can understand your feelings on its recreational use. However there is no denying it's usefullness as real medicine. My father-in-law was against it all his life. In 2011 he got cancer, had to do chemo and lost his appetite and had pain. BeezWife made some brownies and it really helped him. It's a story that's been true for many sick people. The real tragedy is the gov't and Big Pharma denying so many sick people a treatment that actually works and has minimal side-effects for so long. 8 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/9771-do-you-smoke-weed/page/2/#findComment-148386 Share on other sites

Righteous 130
I did it a lot going through high school for fun with mates like most people as an experimental phase. We'd usually just light a fire and smoke up on the beach or in someone's car. I'm 20 now and haven't done it for about 10 months. I'm considering getting back into it to cut down on alcohol but it's just so much more expensive in Australia. The_Lady_A 1,280
@zztop911 @Con @Schumi6581 @Sinister Resurecting this old thread as there was an interesting discussion about Cannabis in the shoutbox. I used to smoke it all the time. Had to give it up as it was making my mental health problems worse. And in related news the largest study of its kind has found a direct link between extra strong cannabis and an increased risk of psychosis. Personally I don't dispute this at all, it matches my own experiences. The cause is probably the focus on massive THC yields at the expense of CBD, as punters want weed that gets them high. Unfortunately CBD has anti-psychotic properties and without it all that's left is the psychoactive compounds. Spinnaker1981 974
Cannabis has been of difficult access for research for the past decades. With the current legislations (mainly since 2017), it has been more accessible so we should see a stream of new researches on the subject coming in the following years. Also data from the locations/countries/states that legalized their consumption for recreational purposes will start to make sense and we will see what the actual tendencys will tell. For now we are too early in this to have ground facts in sufficient numbers to be certain of anything we say, but there are a couple of evidence that has popped out: - The psychotic effect is a serious drawback and can lead to several pathology's if the patient already has a pre-disposition for them. - The plant is very far from homogeneous on its components and the percentages of essentials can differ wildly from one leaf to the other on the same branch, so it is tricky to get the same effects, even on the same plant. - Alzheimer´s patients have had significant improvements with its use, but the way it works is still not studied. - Exposing unborn rats to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is a psychoactive compound of cannabis, reduced their resilience to stress in later life. - Such exposure also led to faulty development of brain circuits for memory and learning, which the scientists observed when the animals reached adolescence. - Adolescent rats that used cannabinoids showed enhanced activity in brain circuits that regulate the formation of habits. - Cannabinoid use by adolescent rats also showed physical alterations in the development of brain regions involved in self-control, making decisions, and planning. - In adult mice, the long-term use of cannabinoids led to changes in connectivity and metabolism in regions of the brain involved in memory and learning. And more stuff is under investigation: The new study, part of a long-term European project known as IMAGEN, included 46 kids who reported having used cannabis once or twice by age 14. Their brains showed more gray matter volume in areas where cannabis binds, known as cannabinoid receptors, compared to the kids who didn't use the drug. The biggest differences in gray matter were in the amygdala, which is involved in fear and other emotion-related processes, and in the hippocampus, involved in memory development and spatial abilities. What the increased brain matter volume means is unclear.Typically at that age, Garavan says, the adolescent brain undergoes a "pruning" process, where it gets thinner, rather than thicker as it refines its synaptic connections. So, for now, lets just see where this gets you, but I do hope that the future doesn´t show us that we, humans, are not making a mistake like we did with tobacco... 3 Quote Link to comment https://www.rockstarsocialclub.net/forums/topic/9771-do-you-smoke-weed/page/2/#findComment-202943 Share on other sites

zztop911 1,609
I've used it recreationally in the past. Never used in the Military because of my security clearance. In the last few years, with my injuries from the military becoming far more intrusive and pain levels increasing, I've tried different strains. I don't like Sativa or heavy Sativa hybrids. I've had good results from Indica and Indica heavy hybrids. I'm not after a high. I WILL NOT take a damn opioid for pain. Many times when the pain got severe, I'd have to go to the ER. Far too many times the doctors would just want to shoot me up with some sort of opioid. The times that I've let them do it, all it would do is take the edge off and make my face melt.........well......feel that way. Lady A I can see why some would have problems with cannabis. I think the biggest reason was the strain. I don't like a heavy Sativa.....period. It can be a hybrid, but it has to be an Indica heavy one. I don't need, like or want a super heavy head high. I think that's mainly from my personality of wanting to be in control. LOL! But I don't tolerate the heavy Sativas worth a damn. I was visiting a friend in Cali not too long ago and he gave me a super dank Sativa. Dammit! It knocked my butt for a loop. I had my friend;s wife drive me to the pot store and I got a bottle of some high grade CBD tincture and took a pretty high dose to try and negate the sativa. That sucked, but the CBD worked quite well. The same friend gave me the strain that I'd grow if able. It got rid of my pain totally and I was still able to function relatively normal, with munchies and being horny were the only side effects. Real research is needed! If it was legal for me to grow, I'd do it totally organic. Most of what I'd produced would be extracted, not by solvent means, and used orally. Just like anything in life, anything used to excess can be bad for you. Moderation is key. Quote I only grow in living soil! Because Fat Buds Matter! Con 5,719
Cannabis has never caused any hardships in my life. I was a healthy person even before I went Vegan, only time i was in the hospital was when my appendix burst, so besides that procedure back in 2006, I have been a very lucky healthy person and I can only attribute my health to my cannabis use because no way I was eating healthy at all before Anyways, I cannot remember the last time I took an aspirin, Pepto, Alka-Seltzer, Opioid, or pain killer. In fact, when I had my appendectomy they gave me Percocets and Valium but I didnt need them because as soon as I got home I hotboxed the chillum instead. In fact, the doctor during the follow up asked me if i wanted more Percocets and he was stunned when I told him I didnt even take one. Since 1993 (when I came across the first medical journal speaking about Cannabis in a positive way) I have researched everything about the plant because I was told all my life that it was bad for me, kill my brain cells and all that garbage. Then I learned about the government program. In 1976, a federal judge ruled that the Food and Drug Administration must provide Robert Randall of Washington, D.C. with marijuana because of his glaucoma — no other drug could effectively combat his condition. Randall became the nation's first legal pot smoker since the drug's prohibition. Then I learned about the lovely Dr. Raphael Mechoulam's 50+ years of cannabis study and APPLICATION in ISRAEL, and I could not believe it....here in America im being told that Cannabis is the Devils drug and here are "God's People" using the plant in studies that are showing real healing and preventive qualities....that led to more research and by then Colorado had started their legalization and I remember the anti-folks being concerned about children getting high and car accidents and all manner of bullshit. A few years ago my state Decriminalized Cannabis possession under 1 oz. and that was one of the best days of my life since now I could drive around with my little nugz and not worry about going back to jail since I do have a prior and probably wouldnt get leniency in court. But now my state is finally heading into legalization and I will look to work for the industry and will probably open my own store someday but my store will have the medical approach ahead of the fun recreational theme. I dont want people to view cannabis like they view alcohol. Cannabis deserves more respect. Cancer patients arent being given Beer to help with chemo, that job goes to cannabis. Seizures....no one is prescribing Tequila for that. That is why I get offended when these companies are selling cannabis strictly as a good time....there is more to it than just being stoned and eating Doritos. I'm very excited about my future with Cannabis. Yes, its not for everyone, but neither are deep fried donuts and alcohol and people consume both those things like their life depends on them. For me Cannabis has and will continue to be a blessing. Then again, I didnt have any mental issues before I began my cannabis use so maybe that is why I have never had "mental" episodes under the influence. Actually the mental episodes are not strickly "while under the influence", but the result from prolonged exposure and the raise in cannabinoid receptors in the brain (from what is already studied that is the believed theory, at least). And, yes, cannabis has positive effects. And I am not anti-anything and, if Portugal happens to legalize it I will be amongst the first one to open a store to sell it, but, in all honesty, and I am a pharmacist, after all, I have to say that nobody goes around chewing leaves from the willow tree to have the benefits of an aspirin, when they can buy it at the pharmacist! Why not do exactly the same with the appropriate cannabis derivates? Morphine is the main ingredient you get from the Papaver somniferum but you don´t see anyone using the plant for that, right? (they use it to produce heroin, but that is a all new subject). Active principles need to be measured and calibrated, and their effects totally and utterly controlled and found so you can have a safe drug for usage. And that is not what we are getting from cannabis is it? For this reason alone, legalizing it for medical use is dubious at best. For recreational use? Well, it will make things easier cos it is already here so no point in it not giving a profit for the government!
